First, Seagull Outfitters’ Lakeside Cabins would like to be our vacation destination. We love the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. The drive north from Duluth, MN along the North Shore of Lake Superior is beautiful every mile along the way. There are darling little villages with tiny shops, tasty restaurants, and numerous state parks with waterfalls, miles of shoreline, and access to the 310 miles of the Superior Hiking Trail. The scenery is spectacular. 

Things To Do on the Gunflint Trail

Once you make it to Grand Marais, MN, and start your way up the Gunflint Trail there is plenty to do. What would you like to do first? Hiking, canoeing, fishing, just chill in the cabin? Below are just a few ideas to get you started. 

Hiking the Gunflint Trail

Starting at Grand Marias you can hike more than twenty locations while you make your way up the Gunflint.  The list of trailheads is available on this map you can download. Each has a short description to help you find the perfect place to see a moose or hill to conquer. You can also view these trailheads on Google Maps.

You can fish from the dock, rent a canoe, or you can rent a boat and motor. If you have questions about fishing in the BWCA you can check out the page or call the staff at 218-388-2216 to ask questions about fishing species, permits, limits, tackle, etc. by Deb and her staff. 

Be a Tourist and Visit the Museum

The Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center is located on traditional and ancestral lands of Indigenous People, the Anishinaabe/Ojibwe people who cared for and continue to be stewards of their homeland. The museum presents the area’s cultural and natural history through interpretive and interactive exhibits. Learn about the Gunflint Trail’s prehistoric beginnings and people who helped shape today’s unique, rural community, including Native Americans, voyageurs, miners, loggers, resort owners, and current residents. 

Eat Like Royalty

A secluded cabin rental offers you the opportunity to bring foods you typically wouldn’t see on camping trips. Plan a menu with wine and cocktail pairings. Test out those recipes you don’t have time for with everyday responsibilities. Spend long, lazy sunny days grilling steaks, lobsters, stuffed peppers, pork chops, desserts, etc., and sipping cocktails with sunsets.

Hop in the car and go shopping in Grand Marais. Stop in at the Gunflint Tavern Fine Foods & Ales to enjoy the best muscles or ahi tuna for dinner. Sit outside to enjoyed cocktails as the sun sets and changes the colors over Lake Superior. It is chef’s kiss perfection. Then head back to the cabin to play games or read listening to the loons, crickets, and frogs. Seagull Outfitters has incredibly fast internet too, so snuggling up and watch a movie if you’d like.

Now that we’ve sold you on the trip to Seagull Outfitters’ cabins, pick the cabin you want to rent.  There are four Seagull Lake Cabins and two Saganaga Lake Cabin Rentals. Each cabin has great internet service, gas grills, full kitchens stocked with pots, pans, dishes, etc., clean and comfortable beds, hot showers, and more. The larger cabins have a full laundry room with a washer and dryer so you don’t have to pack your entire closet to come for a week or two. Here you can find the full list of cabin amenities.
