OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASeagull Canoe Outfitters Store Clerk

Where every trip begins and ends….the Seagull store. All of our customers check in at the store and our staff will give them direction and assistance at that time. We have a daily list of expected customers and staff will direct them to their lake cabin rentals, handle their canoe rental or direct them to their room in the paddler’s lodge. This is a very important role that staff play in our business.

Before and after every canoe trip comes a visit to our store. All of our customers make their way through our store both before and after their trips. Many of them are looking for equipment and last minute essentials before they take off. And when they come off the water, their needs change to souvenirs and gifts to take home with them. With all of this traffic, we look for a couple of competent store clerks each summer to serve all of our customers.

At our store, we sell a variety of food and drink products, camping and fishing equipment, books and gifts and the widest selection of souvenir t-shirts and sweatshirts on the Gunflint Trail. Along with the retail aspect of our store, we also take care of all of the outfitting rental bills at our front desk, we issue camping and boating permits and coordinate all of the outfitting activity for the day. The store counter is the busiest place throughout the day because of all of the traffic coming and going.

We look for employees who are friendly and talkative who’ll be able to interact with our guests. Previous retail experience is preferred, but not necessary. Math and critical thinking skills are necessary and the ability to think and act quickly with a store full of people will be imperative.

Multi-tasking is a must as we often issue fishing and camping permits at the same time as ringing up an outfitting bill all while having to communicate via radio with one of our tow boat drivers calling in with a canoe party to pick up at the landing. This is an example of some of the duties you’ll be asked to perform as a Seagull Outfitters store clerk. Other duties include:

  • Operating a cash register
  • Straightening shelves and folding T-shirts
  • Taking inventory of store supplies
  • Price marking products
  • Reserving and issuing camping and boating permits
  • Stocking shelves and coolers with food and drink
  • Receiving shipments from our distributors and checking orders into our backroom
  • Answering the phone on occasion
  • Sweeping and moping
  • And more…

The store is a dynamic area of our business because it involves a great deal of responsibility. You’ll be handling money and be in charge of ringing up bills correctly. You must be knowledgeable of the area and the rules involved in visiting the area so you’re able to inform our guests properly when they inquire about anything from how many permits are available for a certain area to what are the dining options in the area.

If you’re willing to learn, able to think quickly and critically, responsible and looking for an exciting summer in the Boundary Waters, we invite you to tell us a little bit more about yourself.
