Summer News from Seagull Canoe Outfitters and Lakeside Cabins |

Summer has come to the BWCAW and Quetico! Weather is cooperating and it is finally beginning to feel like Summer in August! Last updated August 12, 2009.
After a very cold and rainy June and July, the weather is finally starting to cooperate in Mid-August! The sun is shining, the fish are biting, and the berries are ripe! Walleye are being caught deep this time of year. They seem to be schooling in about 15-20 feet of water. Walleye and Smallmouth Bass still seem to be favoring leeches at this time in the season. Blueberries and raspberries are in full bloom! They are mainly found in heavy burn areas due to the new nutrients in the soil. Many customers are coming off trail with nalgene bottles full that they picked off of a portage trail or their campsite. We hope that those who have traveled in the great scenic outdoors this summer had a great trip that they will always remember... and those who are yet to come are counting the days until they get to arrive here at Seagull! We hope everyone is enjoying their summer!Deb and the Seagull Staffers Fax: 218-388-9431

General news and notes ...Now that you're here on our web site, please spend a bit of time looking around. Our new navigation bars at the top of the page should make it easier for you to find what you're looking for; we hope you like the way they work. In addition, we've added some new pages, including Canoe Routes, Paddlers' Tales, Why You Should Outfit with Seagull Outfitters, Special-Interest Packages and more! We've added content to many pages as well, to help you in planning your trip to the Canoe Country. For our cabin guests, we've also added a link to our main main cabin page that will allow you to check availability of our cabins on-line and in real time! Photos from 2007: We've got several pages of photos from the 2007 season posted! You can view these great shots, and all of our photos, by visiting our Photo Gallery main page. Send a virtual BWCA postcard: We're very excited about our Virtual Postcard Creator. With it, you can send an on-line (virtual) postcard from the Boundary Waters/Quetico. You have your choice of six beautiful photos; you can add your own message, and even choose your own colors! It's free, easy and fun. Check it out by clicking here. Launch map:(Tow Service) Our website features a map showing the routes we commonly use for our launch service. If you're planning a canoe trip to the Quetico or the interior of the BWCA, we highly recommend a launch, which helps you avoid paddling the large expanse of Saganaga or Seagull Lakes. Remember, we can take you to ANY point within the motorized area of either of these two large entry lakes. Click here to see a few camping tips from our earlier News and Notes pages!
RABC - CanPass... You need to get one of these if you plan to do your canoe trip in the Quetico (or fish the Canadian side of Sag from our Sag cabins). This is completely separate from the Quetico Park permit!! It is not something we can do for you as it requires background info, your signature, and your credit card. An RABC will cover you and your legal dependents. So each adult must have their own. Cost comes out to about $25.00 per permit. This process should begin at least a month before your trip!! Note: Once again, people have been reporting trouble accessing the on-line RABC. Here is a link that worked when we checked it in January 2007: www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/rabc.html. For more information, you can visit this site also: www.canadainternational.gc.ca/Main_Menu-en.asp. We've also posted the RABC form on our site in PDF format; click here to download it. You'll also need the free Acrobat plug-in (click on this link to download the Acrobat Reader if you don't already have it). Canoe licensing requirements ... If you are bringing your own canoe into Minnesota waters it must be licensed in either your home state or by the state of Minnesota. This does not apply if you are only paddling in the Quetico. MN licenses are available at Isak Hanson's in Lutsen on Highway 61. Once you've made your BWCA reservation ... Your credit card statement, for your BWCA permit reservation, will read Reserve America; Ballston Spa. It should show the $32.00 minimum charge (one $12.00 reservation fee and two $10.00 adult user fees). The charge will be adjusted by them later ... after receiving the actual number of paddlers from the carbon copy of your permit which we mail in after you sign it at our place. Secure on-line reservation form ... Remember that our website reservation form is now SECURE ... so you may send your credit card numbers safely. Remember that we cannot reserve permits, or hold cabins, without your credit card. (We also give your card number to the BWCA and Quetico permit centers for your permit reservation fees.)
