Seagull Canoe Outfitters logo Satellite Phones on the rise in BWCA and Quetico

Without the ability to communicate to the "outside world" from the remote areas that make the BWCA so special, many people are not comfortable with idea of relying solely on their own survival skills in the event of an accident while on a canoe trip. Cell phone coverage ends almost immediately upon turning onto the Gunflint Trail. So satellite phones have become an option for some paddlers who want that added "security blanket" while fully enjoying a trip into the remote areas of the Boundary Waters and Quetico Parks.

Seagull has teamed with Globalstar

In the past few years we have fielded a number of requests about communication options while on a Boundary Waters trip. Because of the logistics and the nature of the wilderness, outside of the use of a satellite phone, there is no way to contact someone while inside the Boundary Waters or Quetico.

Well we're now providing the only option in wilderness communication right here at our outfitter. Look no further for your satellite phone, we're outfitting a top of the line unit from Globalstar. Put your worried family at ease, brag to your buddies back home of the big fish you caught or in the event of an emergency, make that ever important call for help regardless of where you're at in the wilderness. Satellite phones make things possible that in the past were not, and we're happy to say that we can provide you with this peace of mind on your next trip.

This phone will work anywhere within the Boundary Waters or Quetico Parks. Set your mind at ease with Globalstar.

....A message from the company

The Globalstar Handheld Phone is designed with the flexibility to meet the needs of customers who already depend on wireless communications, but find themselves in areas where cellular or radio coverage is either unavailable or inaccessible. The Globalstar Handheld phone is designed to complement existing fixed and cellular telephone networks by switching from terrestrial cellular telephony to satellite telephony as required. These features provide the Globalstar user the highest level of service and convenience.

Coverage Area

**Note: Satellite phones are intended to be a safety option or security blanket if you will, and are certainly not necessary to take on trips. If you decide you would like to rent one for your trip, we encourage you to use it only for emergency situations. We firmly believe that you'll enjoy the trip more if you allow yourself not to depend on the phone. Technology has, and will continue to shape the world we live in, but the Boundary Waters area has long been a place to enjoy nature in it's most purest sense. We also understand the reality of nature and this wilderness. And because of this we're offering a way, for those that would like it, to have means of communication while on your trip. We ask that you not abuse the idea. More than likely you planned this trip to relax and get away from the daily grind that includes cell phones. A satellite phone is just a sophisticated cell phone, so try not to depend on it, but rather have it to fall back on only in the event of emergency.
