So, what started Seagull? Well, you could say Seagull began when Deb used to get home from school. She grew up on the Gunflint Trail as a kid and spent much of her free time finding the best fishing holes in her backyard. Her passion for the outdoors had to wait at times as there was a lot of cabin cleaning, bed making and tent and gear cleaning to do---chores she and her sisters shared as part of their family's outfitting business. Deb's family took a break during winter vacations and explored sunny locales like Mexico, instilling in her a love of travel that remains to this day. After graduating from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota she returned to the Northwoods and the outfitting business. After a number of years she purchased Seagull Outfitters. She has now owned and operated Seagull Outfitters for 21 years. Through the years Deb has learned a lot about how to keep customers coming back to Seagull; however she also provides unforgettable summers for her staff. Deb and her staff know there is something extra special about the Boundary Waters and work hard to make sure it is accessible to all our guests, no matter their level of outdoor skills. Who is the Seagull Staff, you ask? We are paddlers, writers, runners, climbers, knitters, photographers, fisherman, campers and MBA's....just to name a few! And we come from all over...Minnesota, Iowa, Louisiana, Wisconsin. The one thing we all have in common is that we are ecstatic to be working here! We know we have the coolest summer jobs ever and try our best to make sure that you are having an even better time than we are. For most of us, we'll only spend one or two summers during our college years with Deb at Seagull, but like our customers our memories of our time up here will carry us on and hopefully we will be back with our own families one day. The Seagull Staff is Happy to Help You!
Steve, Brandi, Brian, Chris, Matt, Dave, Charles, Nicole, Shira, Debbie, David and Alex.
Debbie and the staff have paddled many of the routes that they send customers on, and will give first-hand information from their own paddling experience. They also take the time to go over routes, fishing tips, maps, and other important details with guests. Look at a few testimonials of Seagull Outfitters guests to see why Seagull Outfitter's referral and repeat business is 75 to 80%. |

Another important part of the Seagull family is Sadie (above with Debbie, and at right). This gentle lab often provides the first greeting to arriving guests as they pull into the base. She greets you with her stick and will not give up until you throw it out for her. Even the winter snow doesn't slow her down. She is relentless in fetching sticks, balls and basically everything. But by far the most important part of the Seagull family is our guests. We hope that after a visit with us, guests will feel like family when they return. |
