Chik-Wauk Museum

The Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center up on the end of the Gunflint Trail is now home to hundreds of Gunflint Trail historical relics. The entire story of the Gunflint Trail is now on display in one singular location at the Chik-Wauk Museum. Historical buffs, or Gunflint Trail buffs, or both...come one, come all.

TheChik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center is now open daily from 10am-5pm

On July 4, 2010, the old Chik-Wauk Lodge had its Grand Opening after many years of remaining dormant and vacant. This beautiful stone lodge is a piece of Gunflint Trail history and is now home to the Gunflint Trail Historical Society's museum. This museum is now a permanent fixture on the end of the Gunflint Trail and will be open daily from 10am to 5pm for visitors to enjoy and become educated on the history of the Boundary Waters and most specifically how the Gunflint Trail came to be.

The lodge is now known as the Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center. In the lodge, the Gunflint Trail Historical Society (GTHS) has on display hundreds of pieces of historical relics from the Gunflint Trail area that paint the complete history of the Gunflint Trail and how it came to be the national treasure it is today.

The Chik-Wauk Museum is located less than two miles from our base on Seagull Lake. If any of you have received a tow launch on Saganaga Lake from us in the past, you have driven past the entrance as we've shuttled you around Moose Pond to meet the tow boats. In the past few years, many volunteers and members of the GTHS have worked extremely hard to bring the museum back to life. A new roof has been built on the old lodge, many updates to the interior of the museum have been made and a beautiful display of historical data has been constructed inside. Landscaping on the outside of the museum and many trails have been cut and cleared on the property to provide hiking and exploration opportunities for visitors.

We are the closest lodging on the Gunflint Trail to the Chik-Wauk Museum, and have cabins available to accommodate your visit to the end of the Gunflint Trail and to assist in you as you experience the present day Gunflint Trail while learning about the Trail of days of old. Join us and the Gunflint Trail Historical Society and be a part of Chik-Wauk's new history.
