As you walk out onto your cabin deck sipping your morning coffee, out of the corner of your eye you catch a glimpse of a bald eagle descending upon the water in search of its breakfast. As you watch the eagle pick the fish out of the water with its talons and retreat to its nest to eat, what are your feelings? You can learn a lot from nature, so be a student. If you don’t know how you would react to such a scene, it’s time you put yourself in position to witness something so spectacular, that only the lucky few ever get to see. To inhabit the same area, if only for a week, as the wildlife of the North country is most certainly a privilege that no one should take for granted. Allowing yourself to get lost in moments like watching an eagle will provide memories to last a lifetime. These moments are our motivation, and we’re lucky to live in an area of the world that provides them in such abundance. We invite you to come and experience the Gunflint Trail where moose, eagle, loons, wolves, bear and beaver rule the area.
On the end of one of the most scenic stretches of road in the country, lies a little piece of heaven. The Gunflint Trail is where we call home. The road itself has evolved immensely over the years
providing an historic timeline of the area, and the countryside in which it lends access to is nothing short of spectacular. As residents of the area, we still get the chills at the sight of a bull moose feeding in a roadside pond. Every anticipated twist and turn and bend in the road provides something unique that makes each drive a special one. So whether you’ve been here before, or are thinking of coming for the first time, please bring your camera. The visuals you get from a trip up the Gunflint will burn permanent imprints in your mind, but you can't show those to your friends. If you lend yourself to the wilderness, it will pay you back in ways you can only imagine from your chair at home..
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) is a designated canoe area with limited human access. But adjacent to this vast remote wilderness, you’ll find our five modern cabins nestled into the landscape. This is your ticket to a week of complete relaxation. Contrary to some belief, you can experience the Boundary Waters, and all of its wonders from the comfort of a cabin.
Both of our properties on Seagull and Saganaga Lakes provide immediate access to the BWCA, but at the same time, allow you to drive directly to your cabin door. They offer the best of both worlds: listening to the loon’s haunting, but yet soothing call while still sleeping on a comfortable bed and enjoying the luxuries of modern plumbing.
A vacation to the end of the Gunflint Trail will differ completely from your everyday life at home. Cellular phones make good alarm clocks, but you’re on vacation remember…who needs alarm clocks? So don’t even bother with your cell phone, there are no towers, and there will be no reception. Most technology has left the Gunflint Trail in its wake, and we prefer it that way. It gives you the opportunity to forget your worries and get lost in the natural landscape of this northern wilderness.
The wildlife, fishing and scenic settings are favorites of most who visit the area. If you’re one to appreciate the peace and quiet of this natural setting, you’ve come to the right place. The fast-paced technology driven corporate world has its perks, but people vacation here because it is everything that the corporate world is not.
Because there is no other place like this in the world, you’ll have to experience it here. We’re on the end of a 54 mile paved road called the Gunflint Trail. This “Trail” is a two lane highway that stretches north and west out of our nearest town, Grand Marais. When you take that left turn off of Highway 61 onto the Gunflint Trail, do you get the chills? If you've experienced it in the past, you know the feeling exactly. If you're not quite sure what we're talking about, you’ll have to tell us when you arrive how it felt as you began your journey up the Trail. Because if it’s anything like what we experience, the feeling you get inside is something that’s almost indescribable. But the best we can come up with is that it’s one of excitement, anticipation, awe and relaxation all wrapped up into one. This feeling originates from the natural forces and the undeniable connection we have with nature deep within us all. Nature provides a strong dose of reality and really helps to put things into perspective. You’ll realize what is really important to you on a trip up the Gunflint Trail. And now that you’re coming, we have a place for you to stay that will meet your every need and feed your natural craving. If you’ve yet to experience The Gunflint, a week in one of our cabins will “give you the chills.”

Dear Debbie-- We really had a great time this year at the Big Sag cabin. Each year it seems you make the place a little more comfy (and improve the view to boot). It was really important to me that all my childhood buddies enjoyed the Saganaga experience as I'd been talking about it to them for so long and they all loved it, in no small part due to your diligent upkeep of the place and eye for hiring people of fine character. All my friends were very impressed with you and your whole operation and all have opined a desire to return. So thanks for coming through as always and I hope to see you in August when I return to go camping. Dennis Vail, Chicago, IL |
